Emory Prevention Research Center receives grant of $5 million from CDC

Emory Prevention Research Center, which is working towards increasing the access to healthy foods in school-based food pantries, has received a grant of $5 million from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

EPRC has partnered with community centers in Southwest Georgia that includes Horizons from last 20 years and now, with continued funding, the center will start a new partnership with Helping Hands Ending Hunger, INC.

Emory Prevention Research Center is currently headed by Michelle C. Kegler and the mission of the center is to prevent people from getting cancer in rural Georgia and other chronic diseases. So the continued funding from CDC will help the center to take care of its Epilepsy Well thematic network coordinating center and Cancer Prevention and Control Research Network, which are led by Cam Escoffery.

Some of the main focuses and goals of EPRCs are:

  • Chronic disease prevention by promoting best practices through prevention research.
  • Study Cancer prevention and related research.
  • To improve health promotion practice by educating community members through proper training.

Emory Prevention Research Center has been getting funding for the last 20 years from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for its work, and the renewed funding shows its commitment and results-oriented work for the community welfare.
